CALL FOR PAPERS:
'Ethiopian Studies in the UK: Current Scholarship and New Directions'
Edinburgh, December 18th - 19th.
We wish to invite submission of abstracts (150 words) for a conference entitled 'Ethiopian Studies in the UK: Current Scholarship and New Directions.'
Whilst there are many scholars of Ethiopia based in the UK and doing fascinating work, there is little to bring us together and no network to draw upon. This means that we are often unaware of the work being done on Ethiopia (even, on occasion, within our own institutions). With this in mind, we want to hold an event to offer people an opportunity to present their research and to identify common interests and research goals. We can then establish a network to facilitate collaborative projects and the sharing of writing and ideas in the future, and envisage an annual conference on Ethiopian studies in the UK.
We would to invite abstracts for a ten minute presentation on an aspect of research that you feel will be interesting to a general Ethiopianist audience. Over the course of the two day conference there will also be time to reflect collectively on what we want from a network of Ethiopianist scholars and for plenty more informal opportunities to converse and share ideas.
Please submit your abstract by the 29th of October to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> and [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. We hope to have a small budget to assist with travel and accommodation, which will be available to PhD students first and then available depending upon need. There are, however, no fees associated with attending the conference.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Diego Malara (University of Glasgow) and Michael Crawley
