For what it's worth, while I am hardly qualified to speak to Marx and
the anti-semitism some have read in his work, I think I could read or
even write something very similar today about certain dominant elements
in my own Evangelical Christian faith tradition without feeling it
anti-Christian or even anti-Evangelical. If one reads this as a
testament to the power of the logic of capitalism to overtake even the
divine, I think it reads fairly reasonably. But perhaps I am incapable
of reading this without thinking of the Right-Thinking Evangelical
Christians who have more to say about property and money and dominion
than they do about loving-kindness, real liberty, and humane justice.
