Dear Cecily
Very interested to read about your proposed study REDUCE, with the aim of reducing Cs.
This is a concern worldwide and we have been addressing this here in NZ.
I'm a research midwife at Christchurch Women's Hospital and was wondering if you were considering collaborating with other centres.?
I would be very interested to hear more.
All the very best.

Dear all
I am a midwife lead of an alongside Birth centre in Florence (the Margherita birth centre) and am currently working on revising a document that describes the knowledge and skills of midwives required to work in a birth centre The recent publication of the European standards from MUNet highlights the need for this written document and indicates key points
I simply would like to know from you if you have any policy, document or criteria adopted in your MLUs to share in support of the work I am doing
In particular besides skills That midwives need to have once working in a MLU I am interested also in knowing whether you have some criteria you use to identify the midwives that could work there (a sort or prerequisite to some extent), as this is of interest also for a working group with our national college of midwives some of us italiana are involved with
Thanks infinitely in advance for all your support and inputs I look forward to knowing more from you
Regards

Laura
When recruiting midwives I think you need to look for candidates who have a strong belief in the concept of Salutogenesis, who have a commitment to women's choice even when those choices may not be within recommended protocols and who are willing to challenge medical authority using the evidence which supports normality (as so much of the well-designed research does these days) while at the same time can be a resource for doctors to learn more about normality. As many midwives qualifying today do not have much experience of non-medicalised birth candidates must be willing to learn the skills so essential to care for women in this way.
Best wishes
Fiona
