The Sustainable Development Goals responded to a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. The goals are for all countries, developed as well as developing to ensure that we leave no one behind as we strive for progress. There are 232 indicators designed to monitoring global progress towards the 17 Goals and 169 targets that underpin them, those 232 indicators require in some cases disaggregation by up to eight characteristics. We know the challenge is immense, even in the UK where we have an advanced statistical system much of the disaggregated data needed to ensure that no one is left behind is not yet available.
Claudia Wells, Head of Sustainability and Environment at the Office for National Statistics, will discuss what the UK is doing to meet this immense challenge and ensure that data remains at the heart of the 2030 agenda.
