Dear Tito and Rosana
Unfortunately, and this has happened throughout history, one learns with
dramatic failures. Within the misfortune, it is good news that the tunicates
have been able to save. My support with the Museum and count on us in what we
can contribute.
Sincerely yours
Alfonso

As far as I know, the Porifera along with the Tunicata collections were
fortunately not affected by the fire, as they are located in the basement. The
Tunicata collection of the MNRJ is not very expressive, but the Porifera
collection is certainly one of the most important in the world, being curated
by Eduardo Hajdu and Guilherme Muricy. Part of the invertebrates collections
were lost, and some important material, such as Mollusca types were rescued
with the aid of the museum staff while the fire was still raging. The
documents, recordings of extinct indigenous languages, objects and most of the
work in history and anthropology didn’t have the same luck and were consumed
by the fire.
