Health Research
Salary:   £34,189 to £39,609
Closing Date:   Thursday 20 September 2018
Interview Date:   Tuesday 02 October 2018
Reference:  A2393

The Centre for Health Inequalities Research within the Division of Health Research wishes to appoint a full-time researcher. You must be experienced in qualitative research methods, have experience of conducting research with disadvantaged communities or groups and have knowledge of evaluation methods.

You will work on research focusing on contributing to evidence on action to address the upstream social determinants health inequalities. You will spend around 30% of your time working on Phase 3 of the Communities in Control Study. This is an evaluation of the health inequalities impact of a natural experiment in community empowerment funded by the NIHR Public Health Research Programme.  It is being conducted by a partnership of five universities across the UK and involves qualitative fieldwork in 15 nieghbourhoods.  The remaining 70% of time will be devoted to work with colleagues developing and conducting research within the NIHR School for Public Health Research.  This research will be focused particularly on health inequalities amongst young people.  The division of time between these two aspects of the role will vary depending on fieldwork and other demands.

You will join a team working collaboratively with colleagues in other UK universities and with a range of diverse partners from local authorities, the NHS and the third sector. You will have particular responsibility for ensuring high quality public involvement in all the research you do.

The Faculty provides a research environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee, promoting a healthy work-life balance. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.

The post is for a fixed-term for two years initially.  This is a full-time post based at Lancaster University but part-time working will be considered.
