At the Centre for Applied Statistics Courses, we are excited to inform you that new dates have been announced for all our courses and these can be found on our website. Registration is currently open for courses up to December 2018 and as soon as the rest of the registration links become available we will let you know.

Please see below the list of courses that will be taking place from September to December 2018 - more details for each course can be found on the relevant linked course page:
Introduction to SPSS 19 September, £200
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/child-health/introduction-spss
This one-day course offers an introduction to the uses and functions of the statistical software SPSS including data entry and editing, and the basics of analyses and graphs. The course is ideally suited to those with little/no experience with SPSS, but basic knowledge of statistics is advantageous.
Critical Appraisal 25 September, £150
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/child-health/events/2018/sep/critical-appraisal
In this one day workshop we consider how to critically appraise research papers. Each section in a paper is covered in turn and there is much emphasis on evaluating the collection and analysis of data as described by the authors. Widely available critical appraisal sheets are discussed.
Introduction to Regression Analysis 26 September, £150
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/child-health/introduction-regression-analysis
This course provides an overview of different regression types and details the application of multiple linear regression. Day one of the course focuses on the theory behind regression analysis, in particular linear regression, and covers the formulation, interpretation and validation of linear regression models. A second, optional day allows delegates hands-on use of a statistical package (SPSS) to see how the theory can be applied to answer a specific research question
Introduction to Logistic Regression 2 October, £150
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/child-health/events/2018/oct/introduction-logistic-regression
This one day course focuses on understanding the principles of logistic regression via the notions of odds/odds ratios and transformations. How good the given model is will be discussed and ways of improving it.
Introduction to Survival/Time-to-Event Data Analysis 3 October, £150
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/child-health/events/2018/oct/introduction-survivaltime-event-data-analysis
This one-day course introduces the concept of modelling time-to event data, commonly known as survival analysis. Log-rank tests and Cox proportional hazard regression models are used to determine associations between different factors and the event occurring.
Overview of Regressions with R 10-11 December, 2018, £250
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/child-health/events/2018/dec/overview-regressions-r
This two-day course provides an overview of the most commonly applied types of regression modelling and their application in R.
Please note that interested parties can only register via the UCL onlinestore (each course has to be registered separately, a direct link to the appropriate page can be found on our website under the corresponding course information). Expression of interest via email is not considered a registration, so please avoid this method.
Funding opportunities via the National Centre for Research Methods: The ESRC wishes to improve the standards of research methods and to stimulate the uptake of high quality training courses in research methods across the UK social science community. The bursaries, for up to £750 each, enable staff in the UK social science community engaged in research, teaching research methods or supervising research to update their research skills. Contract researchers working in HEIs are also eligible for the bursaries: http://www.ncrm.ac.uk/TandE/bursary/
