Subject: Appointment of independent expert and lay members - UK Statistics Authority Research Accreditation Panel
Dear colleagues
I hope this finds you well. I wanted to let you know that the Statistics Authority is looking to appoint independent expert and lay members to join its Research Accreditation Panel, which will oversee the statutory accreditation of researchers, projects, and processors under the Research strand of the Digital Economy Act 2017. Further information, including how to apply is available at https://www.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/about-the-authority/meet-the-board/appointments/
The UKSA website also provides links to various resources of further information about the DEA Research strand, including the Research code of practice and accreditation criteria, which were approved by the UK Parliament shortly before the summer recess. These are available at https://www.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/about-the-authority/better-useofdata-statistics-and-research/betterdataaccess-research/
The Research Accreditation Panel, with its majority of independent members, will be the group that will have a lead role in supervising and operationalising the Research strand of the Digital Economy Act, with all the benefits we expect it to bring for the research community. The Panel will independently advise the National Statistician (and Board of the UK Statistics Authority) given UKSA’s role as the statutory accreditor for the Research strand in the DEA. I would be very grateful if you would be able to bring this to the attention of any of your contacts who may be interested in these roles as we are keen to attract the very best expertise. The closing date for applications is 24 September.
If you or any of your contacts would like to discuss these roles in more detail, please contact my colleague Simon Whitworth (copied), or me. I have also publicised this via Twitter this afternoon (@rossyoung_162), so please feel free to retweet. We are keen to maximise the reach of these exciting, important opportunities to provide valuable independent expertise to support us all in realising the benefits of better access to data for public good research that the Research framework in the Digital Economy Act is designed to provide.
With best wishes and many thanks,
Ross
