Thanks for the appeal PDF Ciara, interesting read. I noted the inspector was persuaded by the proposed filtration system and I have downloaded the brochure (happy to send to anyone that wants a peek).
The manufacturers claim - "widely accepted by planners in Air Quality Management Areas" and "Recommended for use by leading air quality consultants" (among other claims).
There is an optional "add-on" that monitors in-flow NO2 concentrations before and after the filter. It was at this point my cynical head took over.
I think I would like to see some independent lab standard verification such systems work before relying on unproven technology - of course, if there is evidence of these units' efficacy out there point me in the right direction.
Back to the appeal - I totally agree building sealed boxes, often used for noise and air pollution mitigation must be a last resort, and perhaps not even an option.
