Dear all,
We’re pleased to share the key findings of our 2018 survey on the content researchers use and value.

The results illustrated a lot of scholarly works still rely on conventional sources, such as ebooks and primary documents. But more and more faculty members are looking for alternative ways to support their research. Put simply, faculty see tangible benefits in using a mix of content types as the best approach to enhance the quality of their research and discover new insights into their discipline.
The survey also showed that faculty encourage their students to use different content types as it improves learning and their ability to think critically. Exposing students to materials that challenge them to analyse, fully understand concepts, and draw their own conclusions is essential and helps equip students with the skills employers find essential. The survey uncovered that:
• 96% agree students can more fully understand concepts and ideas in their field
• 93% agree students can more thoroughly review existing literature in their field
• 91% agree students can produce better quality assignments
• 72% agree students can achieve better grades
As the main information guides, libraries play an essential role in connecting readers with the resources they need. But providing collections that align closer to their users' resource needs presents both opportunities and challenges. Therefore, understanding how the use of varied content impacts research, teaching and learning throughout the institution becomes an essential first step in delivering collections that meet student and faculty expectations.
