JOB DESCRIPTION
A joint postdoctoral position is available in the groups of Dr. Leonid Sheps and Dr. Judit Zádor at the Combustion Research Facility, Sandia National Lab, to work on fundamental studies of elementary gas-phase reactions in combustion and atmospheric chemistry. Primary duties involve using the tools of theoretical chemistry to develop and validate predictive models of complex reaction environments. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in experimental studies using low- and high-pressure mass spectrometry and optical spectroscopy instruments.
Required Qualifications:
PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related field, with a strong interest in theoretical chemical kinetics.
Familiarity with at least one of the following: quantum chemistry, transition-state theory, master-equation calculations, chemical modeling, chemical mechanism development.
The ability to write peer-reviewed publications and a strong publication record.
Additional desired qualifications:
Knowledge with gas-phase combustion or oxidation chemistry
Familiarity with mass spectrometry, laser-induced fluorescence, or other experimental methods.
Experience with statistics, data analytics, or machine learning.

ABOUT OUR TEAM
The Combustion Chemistry and Diagnostics Department is part of Sandia's Combustion Research Facility (CRF) in Livermore, California, where over 100 scientists, engineers, and technologists conduct basic and applied research to improve our nation's ability to use and control combustion processes efficiently and cleanly. Under the principal sponsorship of the Department of Energy's Office of Basic Energy Sciences, the Combustion Chemistry and Diagnostics Department conducts fundamental experimental, theoretical, and modeling research to develop a foundational understanding of the key chemical processes that underlie the complex mechanisms of combustion. Additional programs investigate the effects of combustion emissions on atmospheric composition and climate. Research areas include chemical dynamics and spectroscopy, theoretical and experimental chemical kinetics, flame chemistry and modeling, and gas-phase and particulate diagnostics development and deployment.

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance.
