Good Afternoon everybody,
For additional material to my own research case study, I am looking for case studies of art activities in museums and galleries specifically for SEN / autistic children or young adults. I have found bits and pieces, but no in depth evaluations or descriptions. Anyone who knows interesting projects/ activities or has more indepth information about one?
Thank you so much!

Subject: A Social Prescription: Collaborations through arts, health and education
Hi all,
I’m just dropping you a line to let you know that the 2018 Engage conference is now open for bookings, in case this is of interest!
Hosted by the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, a centre for excellence in arts and health, A Social Prescription: Collaborations through arts, health and education will explore the intersection between arts, health, wellbeing and education. We invite educators, curators, researchers, artists and policymakers to join us to discuss the immense diversity of approaches to arts and health in current practice.
It is widely recognised that engagement with the arts not only has a positive impact on wellbeing, but can support recovery, improve healthcare and help reduce NHS spending. Interdisciplinary work in arts and health is plentiful in gallery education. Learning and engagement teams have forged partnerships with health and social care services, charities, artists, technologists and researchers, Higher Education and clinicians across the UK and globally. From maternity and neonatal care through to older age, creative activity is being embraced as an element in tackling some of the health inequalities that face society today.
A Social Prescription will give an insight into the myriad ways in which practitioners are embracing the arts and health agenda, from rethinking urban planning and embracing Virtual Reality, to changing the ways in which clinicians are trained and how we measure wellbeing.
You can find the all the information about the conference here: https://www.engage.org/asocialprescription
Additionally, the Marsh Awards for Excellence in Gallery Education are currently open for nominations. The Awards, which recognise and celebrate the achievements of those working in learning and education within gallery or visual arts contexts (freelance, salaried or as volunteers) in the UK and internationally, grant winners £500 to spend on their professional development. The nominations deadline is 10am, Monday 3 September 2018.
More information on the Marsh Awards can be found here: https://engage.org/Marsh2018nominations
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line.
Best wishes,
Meg

Subject: Call for examples of use of digital technology in museum education
Hello All
I hope you are all surviving the summer holidays.
I am running a workshop at GEM conference this year putting the use of Digital Technologies in Museum Education on trial. I have been gathering case studies to use, as evidence in the mock trial and to create witness statements, but I would be very grateful for your input as well.
I am looking for examples of when digital technologies have been used in museum education effectively and with positive results. If possible I would also like examples of when the use of technology has not gone so well or detracted from the collection. If you think you have a good example I would really love to hear about it and maybe include it as evidence or as a witness statement. Any contributions will cite the source, unless you wish to remain anonymous.
Many thanks
Naomi Garnett

Subject: Use of sound in exhibitions
Hi GEMs
A friend, Mariana Lopez, is a researcher in Acoustic Engineering at York University, and I’m posting this on her behalf.
She is currently looking at the use of sound in museums, galleries and heritage settings, and is keen to hear about examples of best practise in use of sound to enhance learning and visitor experience in the context of exhibitions.
If you have any favourites you’d like to flag for her to look at (or any pet hates too!), please could you let her know rather than me? If you reply to the list, please cc her in, or email her directly: [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>. She will be happy to collate and share any responses.
Huge thanks!

** Apologies for cross-posting**
Hi everyone,
Created Out of Mind are delighted to announce that submissions are now open to be part of our short film festival, aiming to explore, challenge and shape perceptions of dementias We welcome all films that explore stories of dementia from a range of unique and diverse perspectives; this could include documentaries, animation, biographical, dramatic and experimental films.

We want the festival to be as dementia-inclusive as possible so we have kept it to a duration of 2.5 hours. Therefore, only films with a maximum running time of 15 minutes will be accepted. Film suggestions are also welcome though we would need to approve with the filmmaker or rights-holder before screening.
All films should be English-speaking or have English subtitles.
Films do not have to have premiere status to be screened at the festival.
Deadline for submission: 26th August 2018 Final films will be selected and all applicants contacted by Monday 10th September.
How to enter
To enter the competition, please submit your digital file or link (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. Please remember to include any passwords if the film link is password-protected. Feel free to contact us should you have any questions.
