The University of Southern California Imaging Genetics Center (http://igc.ini.usc.edu) - part of the Institute for Neuroimaging and Informatics - in Marina del Rey, California is looking for a talented full-time research assistant. Duties will focus on analyzing existing brain images to investigate Alzheimer’s disease risk.
Position requirements include a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, psychology, or a related field and good knowledge of Excel. A successful applicant will be motivated, well-organized, careful and reliable, able to meet deadlines, and able to work both collaboratively and independently. He or she should also have strong oral and written communication skills. A demonstrated ability to learn computer programming (e.g., passing a previous computer programming class) is also desirable, and some knowledge of R, MATLAB, python, or bash scripting is preferred. Experience with MRI analysis, a working knowledge of FSL and FreeSurfer, and some knowledge of statistics are also preferred.
Major duties include quality control and data analysis of various brain imaging modalities (which may include functional and structural MRI, diffusion tensor images, and PET images), data management and organization, and some computer programming. The research assistant hired will become familiar with relevant brain anatomy and scientific papers, and will learn how to process brain imaging data using major available and in-house neuroimaging analysis software. This position would be great for candidates who would like to gain training and experience before applying to a PhD program. A two-year commitment is strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
· A demonstrated ability to learn computer programming.
· Some knowledge of R, MATLAB, python, or bash scripting.
· Experience performing MRI analyses.
· An interest in Alzheimer’s disease research.
· An above-average undergraduate GPA (3.3 or better).
· Coursework in statistics.
· Strong communication skills.
· Willingness to make a two-year commitment.
