We are looking forward to welcoming you to the CHAT ACT conference, hosted by Aarhus University at Moesgaard this autumn. Join us from Friday 26 – 28 October where we will discuss, dissect and debate some of the big issues facing contemporary archaeology and archaeologists today – considering our role in the world in terms of action, activism, advocacy and its limitations.
Following our tradition CHAT will be primarily a plenary conference with everyone seated in the same room for the papers. Our Friday night highlight will include an ‘in conversation’ between two leading archaeologists working with issues of social justice and activism in contemporary archaeology – Whitney Battle-Baptiste (UMass) and Rachael Kiddey (University of Oxford). On Saturday night we will have a selection of archaeologically-engaged films accompanied by a wine reception. I'm sure we will be able to introduce you all to lots of our fabulous Danish beers, hygge and hospitality over the course of the weekend!
Taking into account our emphasis on ACTion there will be two short session of parallel workshops / small group session placed across the weekend. They will focus on issues as diverse as working creatively with living populations, dissecting the role of heritage in planning and architecture, representing gender and locating our place in the decolonialization process.
For those who wish to attend who are students and / or un(der)-employed we have some free accommodation to offer at Moesgaard Campus to ease your financial burden (there is also a lower rate registration fee for the same categories). To apply for free accommodation you will need to register for the conference by 31 August 2018 at our website. If we have too many applications we will randomly select allocations. http://conferences.au.dk/chatact18/
Please check out the website for ideas on hotels, transport etc. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me: [log in to unmask]
We look forward to welcoming you all to Aarhus in a few months!
Best wishes,
Laura
