'10 years ago the Octavia Foundation with eight young filmmakers researched, directed and produced Grove Roots a film that traces the evolution of Ladbroke Grove from the 1958 Race Riots to 2008. The youngest was only 14, they consulted all generations of residents, historians and creatives and the final product is an example of a project that benefits individuals and communities. Acknowledging our past is vital to our futures “History is the past, the present and the future, and in Ladbroke grove, our local history is Global”. The festival of Dissent are holding two anniversary screenings and panel Q&As with the filmmakers and contributors to this seminal film that unearths the pivotal history of the area from the rise of the Notting Hill Carnival rooted in protest and from Frestonia to gentrification'.
