This 3-hour course will support participants from Scottish museums and archives to better understand and measure the economic impact of their organisation. Participants in the course will generate individual figures as based on their own organisation's financial, employment, and visitor information, and will be supported to explore how this information can be used to more effectively advocate for their service.
The following areas will be explored as part of this workshop:
What is economic impact?
Why should museums and archives measure economic impact?
How to use the Economic Impact Toolkit
How to effectively use economic impact information
This course is appropriate for museums and archives of all types/sizes, including Local Authorities and ALEOs, and does not require any pre-existing knowledge of economic reporting or advocacy. Participants will be asked to fill in a worksheet of information in advance; this will be used on the day. If possible, please bring a laptop with you. If this will not be possible, please indicate when booking and we may be able to provide one
This free course is run in partnership with Museums Galleries Scotland, supported by Wavehill social and economic research consultancy. The course focuses on the use of the economic impact toolkit designed on behalf of ALMA-UK. More information on measuring economic impact, demonstrating value, and the toolkit can be found here<http://www.scottisharchives.org.uk/economicimpact>.
