Assistant Digital Archivist – Fixed term 3 Year Contract

Job Introduction: We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Digital Archivist working for Bacardi, the largest family owned spirits business in the world, based at John Dewar & Sons Ltd in Glasgow. The role involves assisting with the development of our digital archive collection, to ensure the preservation of our company’s recent history.
Contract: 3 Years fixed term, full-time
Salary: Based on £24,000- £26,000 pro rata
Location: John Dewar & Sons head office, 1700 London Road, Glasgow, G32 8XR
Qualifications: Applicants must have a post graduate degree in Archive / Records Management studies (or a related qualification)
Experience: Applicants must know how to manage and preserve born digital assets and have experience of working in an archive
Other skills: Applicants should hold a full UK driving licence

Our archives and museum collections are at the heart of our world-famous brands and offer a rich resource for the growth of our business. We provide a flexible and responsive service to the company in a rapidly changing business environment. Our small, professional global archive team works closely with colleagues around the world, with emphasis on projects relating to brand development, new product and packaging development, advocacy, visitor centre development and legal defense.
The main duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Digital Archivist will include: working with our archive team to establish a digital archive for our company; selecting appropriate digital business assets and bringing them into the digital repository; cataloguing, managing and preserving digital archive assets; collaborating on the development of and implementation of digital archive policies and procedures; assisting with the implementation of a new digital preservation system; promoting the digital archive including staff education.
The position will also include fulfilling internal and external archive enquiries, relating to all collections held in the local archive. The Assistant Digital Archivist will also contribute to joint archive projects within the small global archive team. The role may involve travel to other offices and sites owned by the company.
Required skills and experience: Applicants must be enthusiastic, self-motivated and have excellent communication and presentation skills. They should have good attention to detail, high levels of accuracy and the ability to work to agreed deadlines. Up-do-date knowledge of digital preservation standards, software and tools is crucial. This includes, for example, OAIS and open-source tools. A full knowledge and experience of traditional archiving would be useful. Experience of business archives is desirable but not essential.
The position reports into the Global Archive Manager and the Archive Department is part of Global Corporate Communications.
