2-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague
We are happy to announce a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship starting from January 2019. We expect the successful candidate to pursue original ethnographic research, publish in internationally recognised journals and publishing houses, reside in Prague and actively participate in the intellectual life of the institute including seminars, workshops and conferences.
Candidates should complete their PhD in social anthropology, ethnology or other related discipline by December 2018 at the latest and no earlier than in December 2013.
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable potential to purse outstanding research and deliver high-quality publications focusing on issues related to migration, diaspora, transnationalism, minorities, refugees and/or violence.
We encourage candidates who are eligible to commit to applying for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship to be hosted by the Institute of Ethnology if they succeed in gaining the postdoctoral position. Such application would have to be submitted during the first year of the postdoctoral position to meet the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship eligibility criteria.
We offer:
Modest gross monthly salary of 26 000 CZK (approximately 1000 EUR, please note that while this salary can sustain one person in Prague, relying on it as solely family income is not realistic).
Research only job with no additional teaching or administrative obligations thus giving the postdoctoral fellow chance to considerably enhance her/his publication record and build more competitive CV.
The position does not come with any research funding. The successful candidate will be encouraged to apply for research funding.
If interested apply by 30 September 2018 to [log in to unmask] The application should consist of the following portfolio in the form of one PDF document:
• a motivation letter
• one or two reference letters (could be also sent directly to the above given address by the reference’s author/s)
• a brief project (up to 1500 words) specifying what the candidate would focus on during the postdoctoral fellowship (it is legitimate not to start a new research during the fellowship, continuing instead in the former doctoral project with emphasis on the publication output)
• a preliminary work plan
• CV with the list of publications (including those in press, under review and in preparation)
• scan of the PhD diploma or supervisor’s statement guaranteeing that the thesis defence of the applicant is scheduled before 31 December 2018
• short writing sample in English (preferred), Czech or Slovak (a published article, article manuscript under review or a thesis chapter).
