This is a new exciting post in the sociology department with a focus on research into the effects and implications of emerging digital technologies (with respect to both social relations and inequalities but also with respect to social scientific research itself).

Job Purpose
To provide academic leadership by undertaking research of international excellence particularly in relation to sociological understanding of the development, consequences and uses of digital technologies and data in social life, the implication of those technologies for social inequalities, and the use of digital methods, data and techniques in social science research. The role would involve contributing to the development of research hand teaching in the area of digital sociology within the School of Social and Political Science.
To make a substantial contribution to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in relation to digital sociology. This would include covering theoretical, conceptual and methodological aspects in researching substantive areas of digital technologies in their social context, and the methods and tools to undertake such research.
To undertake School, College and, where appropriate, University administrative responsibilities.
Standard Terms & Conditions
The salary will be on the Research and Teaching Grade, level 8, £43,266 - £50,132 per annum.
This post is full time and open ended.
The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.
All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.
Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.
