This focus on "austerity" is the right way to assess global economies and their politically reinforced engineering. Just as 'scarcity" - 'ecological resources' - & poverty - are ignored as real benchmark economic indicators in favor of wealth production and GDP, austerity is the burnt pot that has brought on the so-called reactionary and fear driven "populous" mass manipulations by strong men (who promise closed borders & nationalistic fortification) Political oligarchs and strongmen authoritarians are playing power games against the more economically stratified international cabal, sovereign wealth funds and International Bankers (aka: international financial establishment demanding open borders and imposing debt sanctions on entire countries). Austerity is the foundation of the chaos, fear and franatic factional conservatism seeking to hold on to property acquisitions and private allocations secured by several decades of neoliberal and market based neocolonial imperialism.
As long as the discussion is about resilience and sustainable growth of the same systemic imbalances, the observable outcome and theories will be circular in reasoning. I must applaud this work with great enthusiasm and hope it is the spark to bring a new focus at the foundation of causal cross cultural field studies. I am sure there are many of us looking towards a full spectrum accountability for the current crisis driven global disorder and its improvised breakup into divided stratified factions. A global initiative based and founded upon austerity, cause and consequences: is long overdue. Hopefully, this work will ignite that candle and some truth to power will prevail.

Subject: new book: The global life of austerity
dear colleagues,
The book *The Global Life erity: Comparing beyond Europe* has just
come out and it might be of interest.
This is the book's webpage: http://berghahnbooks.com/title/RakopoulosGlobal
contributors to this collection argue that the recent austerity-related
European crisis is not a breach of erstwhile erstwhile development schemes, but a
continuation of economic policies of structural adjustment worldwide. Ththe e
book tackles austerity in a non-Eurocentric fashion, offering novel
insights as to how economic crises are experienced at a global level.
The book is part of the “Critical Interventions” series’ very affordable
short volumes. The contents are the following:
