Dear fellow Critters,
We are looking to add a few more contributions to an upcoming edited
volume titled Gendered Infrastructures. The book is currently under
contract with West Virginia University Press, in their new Gender,
Feminism and Geographies Series
(http://wvupressonline.com/series/gender_feminism_geography), with
Jennifer Fluri and Amy Trauger as Co-Editors of the series. The book is
co-edited by Yaffa Truelove, Assistant Professor of Geography at CU
Boulder and Anu Sabhlok, Associate Professor, IISER Mohali and Fulbright
fellow (2017-2018) CU Boulder.
In recent years, there has been a surge of new scholarship that
conceptualizes infrastructure as a sociotechnical assemblage, or a hybrid
of both human and non-human associations. This literature demonstrates the
interconnections between material objects and social relations, but has
yet to more fully interrogate gender, the body, and intersectionality in
theorizations of infrastructure and its complex socio-political, cultural
and material ramifications.
In this co-edited book, we bring together recent scholarship on the
socio-material dimensions of infrastructure with feminist theory in order
to advance gendered approaches to infrastructure. The book will advance
case studies with a gendered perspective in relation to the diverse
theoretical frames used to analyze roads, water, waste, architecture,
digital infrastructure, as well as their decay and repair. As studies
demonstrate the ways that such infrastructures are tied to uneven rights
to the city, state formation, differentiated citizenship, geopolitics,
political ecology and subaltern identities, the chapters of the book will
utilize feminist geographic perspectives to deepen, challenge and situate
these theoretical interventions.
If your work speaks to this theme, kindly consider submitting an abstract
by Sept 1st. We will get back with acceptance letters by Sept 15th. The
final paper will be due Feb 15th, to be a maximum 8000 words for this
edited volume. The volume is under fast track for publication and we hope
to have it out much before the 2020 AAG. We attach a short version of the
book proposal here that includes more specifics of the themes within the
co-edited volume.
Looking forward to hearing from potential contributors.
Best wishes,
Anu and Yaffa
