Dear Colleagues,
We are writing to advise you of some new developments that will affect the selection of the 2019 Justin Jankunas Doctoral Dissertation Award in Chemical Physics. Starting this year, the top three contenders will be invited to the APS March meeting to present 24-minute talks based on their thesis research. The three applications will be evaluated at the meeting by the selection committee, and the winner will be announced at end of the award session. The first winner will receive a check for $1,500 (previously $1,000) and a travel stipend of up to $1,000. The two runners up will receive stipends of up to $500 to cover their expenses. All three will also receive plaques commemorating their achievement. We expect that this new format will lead to a much livelier session and increase the visibility of the participants.
Please note that the next APS March Meeting will be held in Boston, March 4-9, 2019 and that the closing date for the Jankunas applications is Monday, October 1, 2018. Details of the application procedure are found at https://www.aps.org/programs/honors/dissertation/jankunas.cfm.
Sincerely,
Scott Anderson Laura Gagliardi Robert J Gordon
