Although chimneys are landmarks in towns and the countryside, symbolising past industries and the places where men and women once worked, they are in most countries endangered. Each year dozens of historic chimneys are demolished.
The May industrial heritage theme month of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 was devoted to factory chimneys, and focussed eyes on them. It became an unexpected succes.
After the theme month many comments and ideas were formulated.
As a result there will be organised a
European Chimneys Meeting in Roubaix (France)
on August 24-25th, to exchange information and experiences and to discuss the saving of factory chimneys in Europe.
