Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in road traffic signal control algorithms at the University of Southampton. This post is a full time fixed term contract until 31/12/19. You will be working on an interdisciplinary project that is seeking to apply state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches to develop the core algorithms for the next generation of traffic light control systems worldwide.
Working in collaboration with a major industrial partner it is anticipated that this project will design, develop, simulate, calibrate, contrast and evaluate a range of different algorithm approaches for use in situations ranging from individual isolated road junctions to city-wide coordinated junction control strategies.
The post will be based in the Transportation Research Group (www.trg.southampton.ac.uk) under the guidance of Dr Ben Waterson and you will be joining an internationally renowned team with a long history of research in urban traffic monitoring and control.
You should possess a PhD* in a relevant discipline (Computer Science, Transport Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, road transport simulation and control or Agent Based Modelling or a closely related discipline) or equivalent professional qualification and experience, alongside excellent coding, computer simulation and data analysis skills. In particular, experience or expertise in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage: simulation of auction based systems / simulation of road traffic / distributed control systems.
The post is available to start as soon as possible.
