Dear List members,
The journal Social Sciences (ISSN 2076-0760; index by *Scopus*) is planning a Special Issue entitled "Integration and Resettlement of Refugees and Forced Migrants", which will be guest edited by myself and Charles Simpson. We are planning to shape it around our Refugees in Towns (RIT) project ( https://www.refugeesintowns.org/ ), which we run at Tufts University. The RIT project focuses on urban refugee and other migrant integration experiences by drawing on the local knowledge of individuals living in migrant-hosting towns around the world. Since the RIT project began in mid-2017, we have commissioned more than 15 case studies of towns and cities, with another 15 in the pipeline. We are building a public database to share local knowledge about the factors that enable or obstruct integration, and the ways in which migrants and hosts co-exist, adapt, and struggle with integration. Our immediate goal is to support communities, NGOs, and governments in shaping policy and practice. Our long-term goal is to build a theory of integration from the ground up.
In this Special Issue, we invite papers – particularly by refugees or local citizens living in migrant-hosting towns – that explore urban integration. In your town, how do refugees and citizens interact? How do politicians, the media, and municipalities enable or obstruct integration? What has been the social, economic, and cultural impact of migration on the town, and how have locals responded? What cultural impact has occurred, and what experiences--creative arts, sports, cooking, or other events--enable integration and acceptance of refugees and migrants?
We invite papers, preferably written from a first person perspective, that address these and other questions about integration. We welcome authors whose first language is not English, and who have not written academic articles before. We will help with editing. Papers should be no more than 12-15pp in length.

The submission deadline is 15 April 2019. Submitted papers should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. We encourage authors to send a short abstract or tentative title to the Guest Editors ( [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask] )
