Dear Colleagues
At UCA we are considering changing the way in which we conduct Boards of Examiners and I would be grateful for any insights and/or advice you may have in this area.
We currently hold six main UG Boards at the end of each year (one per School) and repeat this at the end of the resit period 5 weeks later. The same is true for PG Boards except that (due to smaller PG numbers) we will usually merge 2 or more schools into one board. Quoracy requirements currently include at least one external examiner to be present at each board. However, a couple of years ago, any element of discretion the Boards had in terms of amending or overturning assessment/award/grading decisions was removed and the entire process automated. This has essentially rendered the Board meetings a largely 'ceremonial' exercise and we were therefore wondering what (if any) alternative formats others might use?
Any insights greatly appreciated.
Many thanks and best wishes
Kathryn
