Statistical Scientist Specialising in Animal Health and Welfare Research
(BioSS 01-18)
We wish to recruit a statistician to our team working in the animal
health and welfare application areas. This position offers a stimulating
mix of projects, collaborating with biological scientists both to reduce
the prevalence and impact of diseases on livestock and to improve animal
welfare. Activities will include provision of statistical advice on a
one-to-one or small group level complemented by methodological
development either in statistics or at the interface between statistics
and mathematical modelling.
This post will be offered at Hutton Grade D (Established Postdoctoral
Scientist, salary range £30,750 - £37,500) or at Hutton Grade E (Senior
Postdoctoral Scientist, salary range £37,500 - £48,000) for candidates
demonstrating greater experience and potential.
Our ideal candidate for this position will have:
• a PhD in statistics or another discipline with a large statistical
component, or a relevant MSc with additional experience;
• experience of collaborative working at the interface between
statistics and biological sciences, corroborated by co-authored papers
in scientific journals;
• enthusiasm for the development of statistical methods and for their
uptake by the scientific community;
• the ability to interact positively, effectively and confidently with
non-statisticians in formal and informal situations.
Candidates aspiring to appointment at the senior grade should also
demonstrate
• a track record of research and/or collaboration evidenced by
scientific papers, preferably in a field relevant to Animal Health and
Welfare;
• evidence of ability to manage and motivate staff;
• evidence of an ability to work independently both in the development
and delivery of scientific activity and in the pursuit of external funding.
This is a permanent appointment.
All individuals wishing to work within the UK must be entitled to do so
before they can be employed.
Further information on the above post, including how to apply, is
