Historic Records Freedom of Information Officer (B2)
Salary : £28,891 - £33,094
Hours: Full time
National Records of Scotland is looking for an experienced archive and information professional, to work with us to manage Freedom of Information Inquiries relating to our historical government, judicial and some private record collections. Initially the appointment will be for 6 months.
Main Duties:
• Plan, coordinate and respond to all enquiries for access to closed court and government records for the business teams
• Interrogate the numerous archival catalogues and indexes to identify records in scope of enquiries (FOISA and DPA)
• Conduct examination of historic archival records to identify correct information about subject/ individual
• Examine statutory registers to verify status and identify of named individuals featured in the historic records. This is to guard against data breach.
• Liaise with internal colleagues to organise the digital capture of specific records
• Liaise with external stakeholders to support them in sensitivity reviews, e.g. identifying exempt information and advising on appropriateness of redaction of records for release
• Update public catalogue information to reflect sensitivity review outcomes, including identification and correction where possible of deficiencies and anomalies exposed during discovery processes
• Support colleagues in development of procedures, guidance and communications relevant to closed government, judicial and private records
Qualifications:
You should be a qualified archivist or information professional with knowledge of Freedom of Information and Data Protection.
Experience:
This post requires archival experience to understand and interpret the catalogues and records held in NRS and to amend catalogues where necessary.
Location:
Based at Thomas Thomson House, Sighthill, Edinburgh, with car parking and easy access to tram, train and several bus routes.
