“Represent! Participatory cultural praxis for reimagining our world”
How might participatory cultural praxis provide a social and shared context for witnessing and rearticulating structural inequalities? In this workshop we will explore the potential of artistic practices to open up new sightlines that center the emotional experience of racial capitalism, connecting us with each other as the basis of forming political community and solidarity. We will draw upon case studies of critical Participatory Action Research and social practice projects that offer creative methods for collecting and representing data. Methods include video, photography and everyday “ready made” objects.

“Thinking with Form”
From theatre and video making, to writing workshops, and photographic and drawing practices, an exciting array of creative forms are becoming enrolled in participatory world-making. Following an introduction, this interactive workshop aims to attune us to the critical possibilities of thinking and working with ideas of ‘creative form’. Using a series of case studies of creative participatory practices and developing group activities, we will explore three dimensions of thinking with form:
1) How do different creative forms do different types of worldly-work?
2) How does thinking about form attune us to issues around skills and expertise?
3) How might modernist questions of ‘form and function’ offer purchase into the complex relationships between creative participatory practices and the contemporary academy?
