Hi Georgina, as far as I am aware there is no other specific regulation as such. The 'and other emerging technologies' is the bit in the DSE regs you were referred to. I have people who use or have used/overused tablets and smartphones whilst on the move. As with anything, if you do it enough it will eventually hurt!
Management regs risk assessment in view of evidence you have collected should be enough to warrant a review of work practices and control measures. In my practice I have managed to get people to stop or minimise use on these devices but the situation has to get quite bad before they will listen.
Non dominant shoulder pain where the tablet is held for long periods whilst typing and swiping with the dominant hand has been anecdotally reported by consultants but I can't find the link now.
These technologies are good and useful tools but overuse will inevitably cause problems which may have not been thought through when the technology was adopted for 'business efficiencies'.
best wishes,
Ian
