Linked Open Data Professional Development Workshop
There is still time to book a place at ISKO-UK's upcoming event hosted by CABI in Wallingford, Oxfordshire on 22 May 2018. Our line-up of speakers includes:
• Olivier Thereaux, Head of Technology, Open Data Institute;
• Mike Thacker of Porism Ltd, whose taxonomy-based services are used by local authorities all over England;
• Jen Williams, an open data and linked data evangelist who is also an ODI registered trainer skilled in demystification of intimidating jargon;
• from CABI itself we'll be hearing from Martin Parr, Brandon Whitehead and ISKO/TiPS member Anton Doroszenko. All of them enjoy positions of leadership in diverse linked data projects.
This will be a first-class opportunity to enhance skills and consider new tools and techniques for linked data projects. Relaxed networking is another objective. CABI is conveniently reached by road (with plenty of parking space) or by rail (a 5-minute taxi ride from Cholsey station, or 15-20 minutes from Didcot or Reading) or even by air (about an hour by road from Heathrow airport when traffic is quiet) and offers a very comfortable venue for developing contacts and exchanging ideas. There's a convenient restaurant where you can buy a hot or cold lunch, or bring your own if you prefer.
In the afternoon there are parallel sessions to choose between:
• a training session led by Jen Williams, with emphasis on tools that make it easy to publish data for linkage on the web. It will be especially useful for the custodians of taxonomies and other types of knowledge organization system. To join in the hands-on practice you need to bring your own computer.
• a developers forum for those leading or promoting linked data projects, with an open agenda so that participants can steer the discussions to address their own concerns.
Training places are limited, so please get in touch with Stella Dextre Clarke <[log in to unmask]> to be sure of this option. (But take care not to reply to the whole list!)
Please spread the word, too, to any interested colleagues - the programme should interest all kinds of information and knowledge professionals from the public and private sectors, as well as from research establishments and educational institutions. All are welcome: taxonomy owners/developers, librarians, dataset producers, website developers, Semantic Web users/researchers, and even end-users who could exploit LOD.
Please go to http://www.iskouk.org/content/linked-open-data-professional-development-workshop for more information and to make a booking. The normal booking fee for the event is £60, but full-time students and members of ISKO or TiPS pay just £25.
Hoping to welcome you there,
Stella Dextre Clarke
