Hi,
Would anyone be willing to share a bit of information about the processes and relationships in place within their organisation to ensure that archival records are transferred to the archive as per their retention schedule and how (if?) more ephemeral items that might not be mentioned in the schedule but may still be of interest to the archive are offered?
In Derbyshire, we want to be much more proactive about collecting within our own organisation, and would be interested in the processes and connections, or even roles (e.g. records managers) exist within other organisations who operate their archive service on behalf of a parent organisation, particularly, but not exclusively, local authorities. How much do rely on departments contacting you, do you undertake regular surveys, contacts with different teams, what kind of resources are directed towards internal collecting? Does your organisation use off-site storage for non-permanent records?
Please reply off-list and I’d be happy to summarise the responses
Many thanks,
Becky
