Royal Statistical Society Discussion Meetings
One of the great traditions of the Royal Statistical Society has been its Ordinary Meetings, which are now termed Discussion Meetings. Authors are invited to consider submitting papers to be presented in person at such a meeting, with the paper and discussion subsequently published in the Journal of the RSS.
The purpose of this email is to notify authors of a change in the procedure for reviewing potential discussion meeting papers that are intended for Series B of the Journal.
All papers, whichever the target series, are initially considered by Discussion Meeting Committee. Those that look promising are passed to one of the sections of the Society for detailed review. Papers that look suitable for Series A or C of the Journal are handled by the most appropriate section of the Society. Methodological papers that seem suitable for Series B are handled by Research Section Committee (RSC). Usually this is more than half of the total submissions received.
RSC this year will trial a new system of regular submission deadlines with the aim of speeding up response times and bringing a more structured approach to the assessment of competing submissions.
In 2018 the submission deadlines are
* 1st June
* 1st September
* 25th November.
Dates for future years will be given on the Journal web site. There are no submission deadlines for papers that are aimed at Series A or C. These papers will be reviewed individually upon passing the initial screen.
