I write this broader answer not only to you but publicly in the network,
because I can imagine that your question is of broader interest.
Your question and project is interesting. There are of course several
studies on dreams (not only Capranzano on Morocco), and there may be rich
material in these books if they are re-read under your question. Dreaming of
deceased ... is surely - as I presume - a frequent event with ambivalent
feelings seen in psychological categories, which are interpreted more in a
culture bound context (folk beliefs). Otherwise there are certainly common
traits in the meaning of deceased in dreams independent of mere cultural
backgrounds. In my psychotherapeutic work as psychiatrist (and
anthropologist) with patients from different cultural background here in
Germany I used a therapeutic technic of approaching to that question
(compare Devereux' concept of cultural lever):
An Example:
A Turkish client in the psychosomatic hospital, 45 J, independent
taxi-driver, told me that he dreamt from his deceased uncle. Uncles in many
sociological systems are important actors. Dreaming of deceased is a bad
sign in Turkey, he told me. The same is in Germany (and perhaps elsewhere in
Europe) if you read the popular dream-symbol literature of different
qualities, which often are conceived as beliefs based on so-called
"gipsy"-traditions.
As psychotherapist I asked him how he felt in the dream itself: He felt
good! And I asked him to tell me what meaning his uncle has in his personal
life. He told me, that this uncle was an independent thinker who managed his
life for himself and concerning the family and the community in a good way
and served him as inspiring example (role model). The client himself was in
a life situation where he had to make important decisions and developed a
mild symptomatology of anxiety, which was he reason to become patient (his
own decision). The answer on his question to the meaning of that dream in
that situation was clear. Deceased in dreams are always important. The
question for the felt mood of the dream gives a footpath for a meaningful
interpretation as well as the understanding of the role, which the deceased
plays for the dreamer.

Betreff: Appearance of deceased in dreams
Colleagues,
I am in search of anthropological studies concerning dreams and dreaming
regarding the deceased who appear in the dreams of their close family
members
and advise them how they should use the deceased's belongings (clothes,
photographs, things, etc.) after their departure from earth.
I will be deeply grateful if you can share with me any references or
researches in this regard.
