Hi.
We use data loggers at each site where a gas analyser is present for monitoring temperatures for storage of consumables in that area. The solution packs we use have to be stored below 25C.
The data loggers are checked weekly and the information is downloaded onto a PC to analyse the temperature fluctuations in those areas and this information is saved in graph format and can be commented on and acted upon accordingly.
For other POCT a temperature audit programme is in place, similar to Tony's.
Kind regards,
Nichola

Subject: Re: [SPAM] Temperature Monitoring
Hi
We use an infra-red thermometer gun as part of our audit programme. Point it at any flat surface for a reading. This is done in 3 areas of the site, usually the patient area, where stock is stored and the sluice. The values are checked against the extremes of the manufacturer's consumable operating temperature ranges. The gun is calibrated to UKAS standard. What you need to think about with this approach (obviously not continuous monitoring) is how often to audit and which sites are usually at risk of breaching the operational temperature range.
Some consumables are 25C and others 32C at the high end. Some areas will be prone to higher temperatures or wide temperature fluctuations throughout the seasons of the year. Ideally a risk assessment would establish the areas that would have more intensive monitoring. You need to justify what schedule has been adopted and also what actions would be taken if the monitoring picked an unacceptable deviation.

Good question, I am interested to see if there is a good one out there.

Hi,
Could anyone recommend a min and max temperature monitoring strip we could use for Point of Care devices on the ward.
Cheers
Trish
