It would be great if people turn up who have tried CentOS7, people who
have used puppet 3, 4 or 5 to try CentOS7, or (esp.) anyone who has done
all these things. And I'd be over the moon if people turn up who have
written or used any of the modules in these places (see below) or who
have rolled their own modules and published them in github, covering
similar ground (as I have myself.)
https://github.com/HEP-Puppet/*
https://github.com/uobdic/UKI-SOUTHGRID-BRIS-HEP/
https://github.com/alahiff/ral-htcondor-nagios-plugins/
https://github.com/cernops/puppet-htcondor_ce/
For me personally, I'd like to start to establish the best version of
Puppet (3, 4 or 5) to settle on for the time being, the level of CentOS7
uptake already achieved (and hence the work still needed), the
feasibility and likely efficiency of making an effort to reuse the
puppet modules mentioned above etc., how re-use can be managed going
forward (using SW/Eng principles of some kind). I'd also like to get a
handle on which are the important (i.e. useful and reliable) modules for
a typical site to use.
Note: From discussions, I'm quite sure that Alessandra Forti is going to
mention quite a few of these ideas in her talk on CentOS7 migration at
the GridPP meeting coming up. So we don't need to nail all these things
down at the Tech Meeting next week. But it might be good to find out if
re-use is a "goer" (so to speak) or if we are just wasting time trying.
I sincerely hope it's the former, but I fear there will be quite a few
hurdles...
Cheers,
Ste
