Appelen met peren vergelijken? (Comparing apples with pears?) The contributions and challenges of cross-national research. A one-day event for PhD and early career researchers.
Registration now open for an international one-day event at Leuven University, Belgium, on cross-national social policy research taking place on Thursday 19th April 2018, 9.30am – 5.30pm.
The (free) event is for early career and postgraduate researchers and is co-organised by the Money Security and Social Policy Network (MSSP) and Centre for Sociological Research (CeSO), KU Leuven.
Morning Session: Key Notes
1. Prof. Wim Van Oorschot, professor of Social Policy at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Leuven University, will talk about the theoretical and methodological foundations of different types of cross-national research.
2. Prof. Bea Cantillon, professor of Social Policy and Director of the Herman Deleeck Centre for Social Policy at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, will reflect on her contributions to cross-national social policy research, including challenges she’s faced and strategies for overcoming them.
3. Dr. Sarah Marchal is a researcher at the Herman Deleeck Centre for Social Policy at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. Her recent research looks for ways to measure welfare state institutions in institutional indicators, in order to assess whether and how these institutions aid in combatting poverty.
Afternoon Session: PGR & ECR Presentations
Postgraduate and early career researchers will have the opportunity to present their research in the afternoon session. Papers will be organised into streams and chaired by mentors from KU Leuven.
Please note: Spaces are limited to 30 people. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. There may be some help available towards international travel expenses, but we are unable to confirm until a funding announcement very close to the event.
