In anticipation of a call where we can discuss the specifics, I thought i would offer some initial thoughts. DCMI has some experience with this sort of arrangement. Some examples:
FOAF:
We have a simple "good neighbour policy" arrangement with FOAF where we add to its resilience through sharing the responsibility of technical & administrative access to DNS etc. This is described in more detail on the DCMI Website[^1]. In the interests of transparency, the community is kept informed about this arrangement via a separate mailing list[^2]
LRMI:
We have a more direct relationship with LRMI - DCMI took responsibility for its stewardship in 2014[^3]. In the context of this discussion about hosting, DCMI takes care of maintaining the infrastructure supporting the hosting of the LRMI artefacts (vocabulary etc). This includes:
- maintaining DNS records
- Github repository[^4]
- the LRMI website[^5]
- the vocabulary and the attendant PURL namespace - e.g. http://purl.org/dcx/lrmi-vocabs/alignmentType/
In practice, this consists of simple static resources managed on Github, which are processed with Hugo (a so-called "static site generator") and turned into the static HTML website[^5].
It is important to note that the LRMI team have continued to create and manage the actual content - assisted by DCMI. DCMI is, effectively, acting in a 'stewardship' role.
We tend to use Github as the underpinning content store for these kinds of arrangement. This is a relatively safe arrangement because, while Github will most likely eventually disappear, the 'git' protocol is open and ubiquitous, so it is quite trivial to transfer content held in this way.
Anyway, I look forward to discussing. A few people have already expressed interest in joining a call - I'll wait a day or so to see if there are any more before arranging it.
Thanks,
Paul

As this is the second time in two years that the ontology is not available for some time, I think it would be best to give hosting of this ontology into the hands of a more stable organization. I couldn't think of a better fit than DCMI. I asked on the Bibo

Over time, it got more and more competition by ontologies from the library world (RDA, Bibframe etc.) and schema.org<http://schema.org>.
