Thanks Peter
Gosh yes, I had completely forgotten those lovely Chaucer versions by Pope. I've enjoyed re-reading January and May this morning: seeing the 16-year-old Pope absorbing the middle-aged Chaucer's mastery of switching points of view on the battle of the sexes, in unconscious prep for his own Rape of the Lock and Epistle to Blount.
I'm sure Tim intended the Led Zep reference. But when I elaborated reasons for its presence, I'm certainly making meaning to some extent. I don't see this as different from the sort of reader collaboration that so much other experimental poetry invites, though I do agree with you that the virtues of that reallocation of labour shouldn't be assumed without question.
