Dear List
May I enquire as to the methods used in other Dermatology laser departments on decontaminating and sterilising the spacer tips and hand-pieces. The local infection control department have now advised the local dermatology laser department that we should be using the Tristel three step system between each patient. Please see:
http://www.tristel.com/tristel-trio-wipes-system.
Before we had been using a combination of isopropyl alcohol/chlorhexadine and detergent based wipes in accordance with manufacturer's/supplier's recommendations. There have been no reported instances of cross infection and this process has not affected the structural integrity of the equipment. There is no evidence about methods which should be used and I was hoping to compare the practices with other similar departments as to their approach.
Any assistance you can provide in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Replies welcome on or off list.
Regards
Jason
