Hi Kath,
At the BFI we worked with Magnetic North in Manchester to create our BFI Filmography web application (filmography.bfi.org.uk).
MN had to build the full stack to
1. Harvest data from our Adlib API on a schedule
2. Structure and store the data optimally for data visualisation outcomes
3. Enable complex querying, filtering, faceting in many dimensions on a big dataset (10,000 works associated with 250,000 persons and vice versa)
4. Render dataviz across many data properties dynamically (D3.js) into web browser display, trsponding to user interaction, and responsive to tablet level
5. Make all of that scaleable and sustain performance
6. Build in social media sharing and iframe embedding
They were very engaged in the project, super creative in solving the technical and conceptual challenges, a proper collaboration.
They also create other data-driven stuff including the Desert Island Disc Archive site.
Recommended!
Cheers,
Stephen McConnachie,
Head of Data,
BFI

And we’re now in a position to go to Tender for the backend development part of it. So if you have any recommendations then please send them my way!
