CFPfor an upcoming edited volume_Hydroscapes and Hydrosocial States_Vibha Arora
Followingthe paper presentations at ASA2017 “Shifting States” and panelistspresentations therein (Panel 14 convened by Vibha Arora and Georgina Drew_https://nomadit.co.uk/shiftingstates/conferencesuite.php/panels/5928), I am circulating a call for contributors to submit original papers (8000 word), and be part of a peer-reviewed international publication (Routledge/Sage).
Thebroad thematic of the upcoming volume is as below:
The book bringstogether an international selection of ethnographically informed essays that analysesthe inter-relationship between the lived experience of hydro-sociality, therole of market and state on water management, and shifting paradigms of watergovernance. Given the strong hydro-affective relationships some societiesdisplay, the trans-boundary nature of water-flows, and the rising incidence ofinter-state and intra-state water conflicts, we seek to explore the linkagesbetween hydro-sociality and hydro-states. The corporatization of waterresources and the commodification of waterscapes, the emerging fresh waterscarcity with global climate change, and the rise of water warriors necessitatecritical reflections on the political ecology of water governance. We areencouraging submissions documenting the encounter between the lived experiencesof hydro-sociality ('hydro-social states'), demands for culturally sensitivedevelopment practices, citizen encounters with hydro-markets and hydrologicalgovernance ('hydro-social States'). The infusion of anthropological concernsthat include human-nonhuman relationships, multispecies affects, religiousperspectives on water and cosmopolitics will enrich discussions on thepolitical ecology of water.
