Job title: Research Support Officer on Scottish Longitudinal Study (SLS)
We are seeking a motivated researcher or data analyst/statistician with good quantitative research skills to work on the Scottish Longitudinal Study (SLS), a large-scale linkage study created using data from Scottish administrative and statistical sources, including Census data and Vital Events data. The SLS Development and Support Unit (SLS-DSU) team, within the Longitudinal Studies Centre - Scotland (LSCS), provides support to UK academics undertaking research projects using the SLS. The postholder will provide research support and contribute to the development of the SLS service overall. The postholder will be involved in facilitating use of the SLS, core elements include project planning and development; statistical computing; promotion and enhancing impact of the SLS data and liaison and cooperation with other team members, the other UK LS studies and NRS.
The successful candidate will have a postgraduate degree in quantitative Social Science, Applied Statistics, Health, Population or related discipline and substantial experience of using statistical software. Experience of data management, quantitative data analysis and an ability to write reports clearly and quickly and present work publicly are all key requirements. Thus good communication and time management skills are essential.
This post is funded by the ESRC for 15 months in the first instance and will be available from 1st April or as soon as possible thereafter. It will be based in the SLS/LSCS office in Corstophine (Edinburgh). Applicants who wish to work part-time between 50% FTE (17.5 hours/week) to 80% FTE (28 hours/week) are welcomed.
