RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED HEALTH STATISTICS
UCL Department of Applied Health Research funded by Legal & General Assurance Society.
Permanent, full-time post (based at UCL until Dec 2020, subject to further renewal)
Salary: £35,000 - £50,000 p.a. (UCL SRA/RA Grade 7/8, inclusive of London allowance)
Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking to appoint an applied health statistician to work in a unique academia-industry collaboration now in its tenth year between one of the world's premier universities and one of the UK's leading financial services companies.
Population ageing is a key social issue of our times. But not all socioeconomic groups have gained equally in the rapid increase in life expectancy since the 1970s. The successful candidate will contribute to, and help shape, our on-going programme of research to understand trends and future drivers of differential health- and total life-expectancy between socioeconomic groups.
Key Responsibilities
To conduct secondary data analyses on a range of large-scale public-access databases to investigate the social, behavioural, clinical and healthcare-related factors that best explain differential rates of morbidity and survival between the least and most deprived populations in England and internationally.
Other projects will include trend analysis of US and UK cause of death data and health survey data.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
The post holder will have
- A PhD in applied statistics in population health sciences; or a MSc in a relevant quantitative field with 5+ years of research experience
- Track-record of time-series, longitudinal and/or linked electronic-health data analysis
- Expert-level computing skills using large, complex databases
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
