Job: Chancellor's Fellowship in Data-Driven Innovation - School of Mathematics - University of Edinburgh
Deadline: 5pm (GMT), 12th March 2018.
To support the next generation of academic research and innovation leaders in data sciences and artificial intelligence and drive the outcomes of the City Deal opportunity, the College of Science and Engineering in the University of Edinburgh proposes to appoint up to 10 new Chancellor’s Fellows in Data Driven Innovation (as part of a cohort of 30 across the University). These prestigious awards are aimed at early career individuals of the highest potential and attainment who have begun to establish a reputation for the highest quality research at the forefront of their discipline and who have a commitment to learning and teaching at university level.
The successful candidate will be hosted in the School of Mathematics and allied to the Bayes Centre. The University of Edinburgh has made a significant investment in Statistics and Data Science leading to a rapid expansion of the Statistics group within the School of Mathematics who recently launched the interdisciplinary Centre for Statistics and is currently in the process of hiring statistical consultants in its establishment of the related Statistical Consultancy Unit. These together will bring opportunities to work on practical problems arising from growing interactions with Industry and the Public Sector, and to address many interdisciplinary questions from across the University. The Chancellor’s Fellows will work with the Statistical Consultancy Unit, the Centre for Statistics and the Bayes Centre to help to address these challenges.
There are several themes within Data-Driven Innovation where the School of Mathematics has particular interests, particularly within the Bayes Centre (Digital Technologies and Space & Satellite), but also the Edinburgh Futures Institute (Financial Services and FinTech). In particular, the Chancellor’s Fellows will be of particular interest to researchers in Statistics, through connections with Statistics and Data Science generally or Geospatial Statistics or Statistics for the Physical Sciences. There are also opportunities to contribute through Stochastic Analysis, Optimisation and Computational Applied Mathematics.
