Professor or Associate Professor in Astrophysics
at the University of Leicester
As part of its Centenary investment programme, the University Leicester is
seeking to appoint a highly motivated academic to the post of either
Professor or Associate Professor in Astrophysics.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy has an international reputation
for award-winning and ground-breaking research in observational and
theoretical astrophysics. For example, it has active research programmes in
astrophysical transients such as Gamma-Ray Bursts, exoplanets, stellar
physics, planetary science and accretion physics. The Department has
participated in virtually every major high-energy astrophysics satellite,
has been heavily involved in the design of space instrumentation and is
also preparing for a number of future projects. Current project involvement
includes the NASA Swift mission (gamma and X-ray), the NGTS exoplanet
finder, the ESA GAIA mission, the wide-angle optical survey facility GOTO,
the Cherenkov Telescope Array, and the JUNO mission to Jupiter. Future
projects include JWST, the SVOM mission for transients, the ESA BepiColumbo
mission to Mercury and the ESA Athena X-ray observatory. The Department
hosts a DiRAC supercomputer node and has access to powerful University High
Performance Computing facilities.
