Here is the original message:
Dear CMS colleagues:
We need your help and support.
We are current students and alumni of the PhD program at the Sobey School of Business, in Halifax, Canada. As you may know, the Sobey School of Business is currently seeking a new director (officially “Coordinator”) for its PhD in Business Administration (Management).
Dr. Albert Mills, who has led the program since 2003, will be stepping down as of April 30, 2018.
Under Dr. Mills' 15-year leadership, the program has established itself as accepting and supporting a wide range of approaches to management scholarship, ranging from positivist to postpositivist traditions such as management historiography, feminist critique, postcolonialism, sensemaking and discourse analysis (and more). Coursework includes exploration of these multi-paradigmatic approaches to management research, and critical approaches are encouraged.
As the program goes through a leadership transition, many of us are keen to ensure that this breadth of methodology, epistemology and ontology is recognized, so that it will continue to be supported and promoted within the program. While we believe the Sobey program has become recognized externally for this richness, we want to make sure the school’s internal administration sees and understands the value of this differentiation.
And so, we ask for your help.
We have crafted a letter to encourage the Sobey School of Business to recognize the value of the multi-paradigm approach it has developed under its current leadership. This letter is open for signing by anyone who feels critical management, and postpositivist approaches, should be upheld and further developed in schools of management. We hope to impress upon the Sobey administration that they have a gem on their hands, and it is valued by alumni (whether they pursue evidence-based or postpositivist research!) and by affiliated colleagues, near and far.
If you are interested in supporting this cause, please follow the link below and add your name, and a comment to the letter. You can read the letter here:
