Subject: Archive Service Accreditation update and reminder of next deadline for applications for Archive Service Accreditation

Revised documentation for Archive Service Accreditation for archive service applying after 5 April 2018

We're planning to make some revisions to the application form and supporting documentation for Archive Service Accreditation. These will affect any archive service making an application for Archive Service Accreditation after 5 April 2018.  The revisions reflect both changes regarding the management of born digital records and feedback from archive services and individuals who participated in the light touch review of Archive Service Accreditation led by Elizabeth Oxborrow- Cowan.

We plan to make available all revised documentation on the Archive Service Accreditation guidance page<http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/archive-service-accreditation/supporting-guidance/)> in Spring 2018 once the light touch review of the programme is complete and the changes have been approved by the Accreditation Committee.  Some of these changes have already been published on our guidance page where a copy of the application form with revised questions about the management of born digital records is available<:/www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documents/archives/archive-service-accreditation-application-form.pdf>.


Temporary closure of the online application system for Archive Service Accreditation April 2018 to June 2018

This means that we need to close for a short period to new applications to make the changes to the online application form.  The online application system<https://nationalarchives.fluidreview.com/r/>  will therefore close to applicants for a short period from 6 April 2018.

Although we are not expecting major changes to the application form, archive services that do hold data in the online application system are currently advised that their application data may not copy across at points where there are revisions to the online application form.  We therefore recommend downloading and keeping a copy of incomplete applications for future reference.

We will notify archive services once the online application system is available again in June 2018.


Next deadline for applications for Archive Service Accreditation

We'd like to remind archive services across that the next deadline for submitting an application for Archive Service Accreditation is 5 April 2018.  This applies to all applicant archive services across the UK due to the temporary closure of the online application system.
