Job: Gastronaut No.2/onstage production assistant/researcher
Stefan Gates needs a bright, lively, flexible new Gastronaut No.2 to work on large-scale headline stage shows in the UK and abroad, YouTube videos and various wildly ambitious food & science projects - starting ASAP. Experience is great, but not as essential as enthusiasm. Imminent shows include the Big Bang Fair at NEC, cruises and science festivals. The job is great fun for someone who’s adaptable, loves playing with ideas, taking responsibility and is flexible on dates (shows can be at weekends or school holidays). Based: London (near Highbury & Islington tube/Canonbury overground).
NB the office, workshop and studio are all in a big, fun family home which comes complete with TV studio, food photographer wife, dog, teenagers and very occasionally Mary Berry.
Salary: EITHER £21-26k (depending on skills/experience) + bonuses.
12-month contract with 3 months probation, 28 days holiday

OR Paid internship at £10.20/hr depending on uni/college policy
Hours: 35-40hrs pw depending on workload
time off in lieu for anything over 40hrs or weekend work
Job description
The role is for a bright, lively, multi-talented, hands-on production assistant and demo developer who will help to produce, present, research, build and deliver live stage shows, YouTube videos and other media. Each day is wildly different and could include brainstorming demos, production planning, researching, building props, filming videos, packing and travelling or on-stage helping present to huge theatre audiences.
Skills Applicants need to be happy and safe around rockets, dogs, kids, robots and cars – and must be fun to spend 4 hours in a van with! A full driving licence is essential. DIY skills very useful. The right person will be able to adapt to any task but experience in these may help: live stage show/TV production, science communication, live music or food festivals, coding, video production/editing.
Gastronaut is a small, growing company run by producer/presenter Stefan Gates, creating spectacular, inventive media and live shows anywhere from Cheltenham Science Festival to Butlins and Abu Dhabi. Current projects include The Big Bang Fair headline show ‘The Quantum Mechanical Chocolate Factory’, ‘The Utterly Revolting Science Show’, a book on farting, schools shows and various food projects.
