of 28 February 2021.
Working Pattern: Full time
Faculty: Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health
Department: School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) Public Health
Salary: Grade 7 £30,688 - £32,548 per annum
Closing Date: 2 March 2018
The School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR), University of
Sheffield is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to contribute to
the health economic modelling of tobacco and alcohol tax in the UK. This
is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the Sheffield Alcohol
Research Group, an internationally leading public health economic
research team at a world-leading university.
You will work on the SYNTAX project “Integrated evidence synthesis for

You will contribute to modelling of the impact of potential changes to
taxation on tobacco and alcohol consumption, health, economic and other
societal outcomes e.g. work absence. Using health economic, statistical
and epidemiological approaches, these analyses will make use of national
survey data on individual consumption and spending, and health outcomes.
You will be expected to develop detailed protocols, negotiate access to
relevant data, analyse this data using appropriate methods (likely to
include econometric analyses of price elasticities), prepare manuscripts
and disseminate results to the public and scientific peers.
You will have direct research experience of statistical modelling using
techniques such as regression or latent class analyses. You will also
have either experience and an enthusiasm to learn health economic
modelling techniques. You will have postgraduate qualifications in a
numerate discipline such as statistics, epidemiology, economics,
operational research or related subjects.
The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a
generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access
to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal
and professional development. We build teams of people from different
heritages and lifestyles whose talent and contributions complement each
other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers
greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
